Life moves fast, so fast that I'm falling behind in some crucial areas: paperwork, home care, personal hygiene. Seriously, when you forget to brush your teeth, something has gotta go. And this blogging thing...Thanksgiving was the last time I entered this realm. Miss me? Thought not. You're busy, too!

My feeble attempt to seek peace and set priorities over the holidays involved staying away from the computer and turning off the cell phone. Then one evening, barely into 2010, my husband and I went to dinner with some friends. My first phone call of the new year arrived mid-course and consisted of this:

The Unfortunate Hostess

Holiday insanity is upon us. The retail maniacs have decorated the stores and are touting their wares through every imaginable media outlet. Time to hibernate--or panic. Right now I'm in the hibernating mode. Maybe all the hype will just disappear if I go to sleep. Wake me in March.

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching, however, so I must drink some strong coffee and change my attitude quickly.

Becoming My Mother

I knew it was going to happen but the shoes clinched it. Today I realized that I've become my mother, or at least I'm in the latter stages of the transformation.

It has happened slowly with a comment here and a habit there, such as picking lint off coat jackets and needing to make soup at the hint of a sniffle. But the transition became more evident as my children hit puberty.

The Great Swampy Outdoors

I'm still waiting for that invigorating feeling I've heard about, the one you get after a sound night's sleep out in the wilderness. The one you get while inhaling the aroma from a steaming cup of coffee, listening to the birds chirp in the wee hours of a dew-soaked morning. Ahhhh. That's the feeling of camping in the great outdoors.

It's not the feeling I experienced on our first "family camping extravaganza" last weekend.

I LOVE CINCINNATI

I saw another ILOVECINCINNATI bumper sticker again today. WHoooHooo! Gotta love ‘em. Why do these stickers make me cheer? After all, I'm a middle-aged mom with a knack for whining about just about everything. Why do I love this city I call home?
