Honoring Mom

She just returned from caring for her disabled mother. Felled by a stroke in October, this amazing woman is struggling to return to the life she once knew. Each of her children take turns staying with her for days at a time, leaving families and jobs to travel hours to come to her aid. In today's busy world, this alone is phenomenal.
But what really touched me was my friend's attitude and perspective. When I expressed amazement at her family's efforts to work together, she told me what an honor it has been. She told me about the blessings of spending unhurried time with her mother, an indulgence she would otherwise not have enjoyed, an opportunity that could have passed untaken. She talked of the love of her siblings and their spouses for the gentle matriarch who now feels so helpless.
And most poignant, my friend said simply that it's time to give back, to care for Mom as she so lovingly cared for them.
We're all called to honor our father and mother, but when obligation is met with such sincere love, God is certainly at work. What a beautiful sight it is to behold.
