Losin' It

I've officially lost it. Doesn't matter what "it" is, it's gone and not comin' back. And I'm pretty sure my kids took it.
My children are wonderful helpers. I give them each a daily list of jobs and they do them, with ample reminding and threats, of course. I have not emptied the dishwasher, dusted or changed a sheet since the last day of school. I also have not seen the scissors in a month, ditto the vegetable peeler and several dish towels. I suspect one load of laundry was washed with fabric softener rather than detergent. And that suspicious stain in the middle of the family room carpet? It belongs to no one.
After days of looking for my good Fiskars, I resorted to cutting wrapping paper with a preschool scissors. (One might wonder why we still possess not one, but three pair of preschool scissors when we have teenagers. Don't.) After trying to peel carrots with a cheese slicer (beating it on the counter has the same effect), I decided the outer peel is quite nutritious. And after worrying about the sudden snugness of my waistband, I discovered that my daughter's undergarments had migrated into my drawer.
Tomorrow is cleaning day. Maybe I'll find the missing items. Maybe the bathroom vanity door will magically repair itself. Maybe we will identify the mysterious liquid that keeps appearing at the bottom of the fridge.
Or maybe the kids will come clean and admit they spilled it, broke it or hid it under the bed so they can get out of these summer chores...not that I'm paranoid or anything.
