Schools out

It can't be that time again. Oh, but the discarded backpacks in the hall, stacks of school papers everywhere and the sudden jump in grocery bills indicate that it is so. School is out for summer.

You're either in panic mode, denial or in love with the idea of having kids underfoot.

If you work outside the home, you've probably planned these three months very carefully. But if you're at home, you're in for a wild time. Me? I'm somewhere in between. Trying to convince children to BE QUIET because mom is writing or doing an interview really doesn't work too well. And quite frankly, it never did. Mine remember for about five minutes that I'm on the phone with a really important person who thinks I'm in a posh office somewhere rather than at my kitchen table in my slippers downing my fifth cup of coffee.

And while it's easy to get discouraged with the lack of control you (ok, I) have, it's good to remember, as I am so often reminded by my dear husband, that these days are fleeting. Someday the house will be orderly and clean and quiet and, well, kinda boring. Someday things will be more predictable. Someday there will be no more popsicles and complaints of boredom and arguments over who won't get out of the bathroom. Someday I won't spend the day driving and asking questions and worrying about who is doing what with whom.
In the meantime, we have summer days. Be sure to check Inspired Mother in the next few weeks for help with vacations and great ideas from other moms on a variety of subjects. Until then, go swimming!
