perfectmomIt’s nice to know that even the most perfect among us mothers do not have it all together. The Imperfect Mom is a smile-rendering collection of 36 essays by professional female writers and mothers who open up and share their best and worst parenting moments. I loved the story by Kate Kelly, Tadpoles Don’t Make Great Pets. How could she inadvertently let her son’s future frogs die? In Slacker Summer, Muffy Mead Ferro describes how she did not sign up her children for a single activity and you know what? Her children were fine. Jacquelyn’s Mitchard’s touching essay, I Was a Car Pool Dropout, begins with a self –deprecating admission that her chronic lateness caused her to be dismissed from the neighborhood carpool. Yet, in reality, Mitchard was not so much disorganized as she was a young widow striving to hold her family together. The Imperfect Mom offers a non-preachy, supportive read that celebrates the poignant, touching and universal stories of motherhood. It is a great escape for mothers with a few stolen moments of quiet who need support, encouragement or just a good laugh.
